Fortunately or unfortunately, a moment defines me. When I was 18 I had a best friend, a sister really, and an ex-boyfriend. My best friend and I were going to spend the weekend at the beach. It was a several hour drive from home. It was her idea to invite my ex-boyfriend. I did not want him there. I went a long with it and regret it to this day. On the first night, we all drank beer and partied. The ex had a bad temper. He and I argued and I told him I was leaving for home. He grabbed me, threw me down and beat me like a dog. I suffered bruise and cuts to my face, a shattered ear drum, major concussion and years later needed surgery for the bones he broke in my face/skull. The worst part was begging for help from my best friend and her boyfriend and having them turn and walk away. After that happened, I decided to go to school and get an education and a new set of friends. It was very hard for me. I worked my way through college and graduate school and achieved my goal and now work in the legal field.
